R. A. MOORE COLLECTION PEDIGREE
NGC MS68
It's difficult to get this coin in a high grade. I've sent in several of these and this is the highest grade that I've gotten. I I
have subsequently upgraded and am selling this lessor duplicate. All things considered, this is a low price for
this coin as MS68 is considered a high grade.
Since this coin was conserved by NGC it is particularly bright and has not even a trace of any toning.
In general terms, the Uncirculated version of the silver R1 coins have much lower mintages and often times
they are worth far more than a proof coin of similar or even higher grade. Many of the uncirculated R1 coins have mintages below 1000 and some mintages are less than 200. Even in modern times the S. African Mint strikes the uncirculated R1 in very low mintages. It is rare to see an uncirculated silver R1 coin that is dated between 1992 and 2014 to be listed on ebay and that includes both graded and un-graded coins.
Another thing to realize is that most of the uncirculated coins do not grade well. This is partly because the coins
released and sold by the mint in pouches without being in a capsule. Not many of these get graded, either.
Many coins have MS69 or MS68 as the top population. Collecting the uncirculated Silver 1 Rand coins can be a rewarding challenge.
I sell sealed sets also
so be sure to see my other listings - I may even have a sealed set on auction on occasion.
You may want to check out my other items as I have lots of South African silver coins, included graded and raw coins.
I'll be listing a limited number of other types of Mint-Sealed South African silver coins in the next few days.
